7 Guinness World Records beyond anything you’ve ever seen

7 Guinness World Records beyond anything you’ve ever seen

Angie Costa

Some people set records as the fastest runners or swimmers. Others go down in history for their inventions or discoveries, Nobel prizes even. Then there are those few eccentric ones who get recorded in the Guinness World Records for doing things most of us would never even try. Here are the seven most interesting or weirdest (depending on how you look at it) Guinness World Records set so far.

Stretchiest skin

Garry Turner is affected by a rare medical condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. This condition enables him to stretch the skin of his stomach to 6.25 inches. He set that record on October 29, 1999. So if you found Mister Fantastic’s skin texture from the Fantastic Four a little too stretchy to be true, then Gary is proof that such skin actually exists.

Longest female fingernails

How often do you trim your fingernails? In a week, two weeks, a month, maybe a year? Guinness World Record holder Lee Redmond grew her nails for over 30 years without clipping them off. She holds the record of the longest fingernails at 28 feet, 4.5 inches, in February 2008. Unfortunately, she lost those record-setting nails in an automobile accident in early 2009.

Most piercings in a lifetime

Most of us would cringe at the thought of a needle piercing our skin, whether it’s for a tattoo or medication, but Elaine Davidson did not seem to mind it ever since her first piercing in January 1997. Since then and according to the Guinness World Records, Davidson had a total of 4,225 piercings as of June 2006. Recent information suggests her piercing count stands at 11,003 as of January 2019.

Longest mustache

Let’s put dreadlocks aside and talk about Ram Singh Chauhan’s rope, sorry, mustache. On March 4, 2010, Chauhan from India set the record at 4.29 m (14 ft). He did this on the set of an Italian TV show, Lo Show dei Record in Rome.

Longest dog tongue

We humans set Guinness World Records but so do animals! Mochi “Mo” Rickert, a cute St. Bernard doggo is heir to the longest dog tongue ever recorded. The record was measured in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA, in 2016. Oh, if you’re wondering how long her tongue is, it is a whole 7.31 inches long. Imagine that licker flapping outside a moving car. Just adorable, right?

Longest female legs

It is probably safe to say that some people will “grow” to great lengths to set a Guinness World Record. Maci Currin of the United States set a new record for having the longest female legs. The left leg measured 135.267 cm (53.255 in), and the right measured 134.3 cm (52.874 in). These legs make Maci 6 ft 10 in tall, who attempted the record to inspire other tall women globally.

Largest hairy family

We started this list with a medical condition so let’s end it with one. Four members of the Ramoz Gomez family are affected by a rare condition called Congenital Generalized Hypertrichosis. It is characterized by excessive facial and torso hair. As for the symptoms, the women are covered with a light-to-medium coat of hair. As for the men, they have a record-holding hair cover of 98%. Their record was set as of February 1, 2000. Apart from the Guinness World Records, the family has also helped scientists analyze which gene is responsible for CGH.
